At Sheltersuit Foundation, we believe in a world where everyone matters. Where people are not judged by their past, but are seen for their potential. You can see this not only in our products, but above all in our people. In addition to the well-known Sheltersuits and Shelterbags, we are also deeply committed to something equally important: creating opportunities for those who have been sidelined. Through the Sheltersuit School, we offer warmth, protection, and perspective — from the inside out.
From challenge to oppurtunity
The Sheltersuit School was born from a strong belief: everyone deserves the chance to grow. For people with little work experience, language barriers, or difficult home situations, the step toward employment can feel overwhelming. Especially when self-confidence has been worn down. The Sheltersuit School offers a safe and supportive environment where you are allowed to be yourself, make mistakes, and learn something new every day.
Since February 2024, we’ve been welcoming small groups twice a week to a bright workspace next to our social atelier. No experience required — just motivation. Here, a new chapter begins.

What do you learn at the Sheltersuit School?
Wednesdays are dedicated to sewing classes. Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, participants learn the basics of the trade — from using a sewing machine to inserting zippers and creating products like bags or skirts. Everyone works at their own pace, with personal attention.
Thursdays focus on personal development. Participants work on themes such as punctuality, planning, health, self-care, and setting personal goals. The coaching is always focused on building self-confidence and independence.

Trust grows through collaboration
An essential partner in this project is the municipality of Enschede. Participants can join through participation agreements, retaining their benefits. Local community coaches are also closely involved, providing a trusted bridge between home and work. Together, we provide tailored guidance and quick support with challenges like childcare or health concerns.
And the results? They are hopeful. In 2024, all participants made at least one step on the participation ladder — and many even two or more. Some moved on to paid work, others continued as volunteers. But most importantly: everyone grew — in skills, self-awareness, and confidence.
More than a training program
The Sheltersuit School is not a traditional training course. It’s a place where people are seen, where talents are discovered, and potential is nurtured. Where warmth, dignity, and protection are not just sewn into our products, but lived in every encounter.
Because inclusion starts with trust — in yourself, in each other, and in a future full of opportunity.
