Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming nearly 200 supporters to our location in Enschede for a very special donor event: our very first Partner Day at Sheltersuit. It was a day full of meaningful encounters, heartfelt conversations, and inspiring stories from the field. We shared what we’re currently working on, looked ahead together, and showed just how much impact one warm coat and one warm gesture can make. It was incredibly valuable to come together in this way with everyone who helps make our work possible.
A story from the street
One of the most impactful moments came from Sebastiaan, an expert by experience and formerly homeless. He spent three months sleeping on the streets, where he learned what it means to lose everything.
I went to great lengths not to come across as a homeless person, because it's something you simply don't want to admit to yourself.

A growing movement
In addition to Sebas, our team members shared more about Sheltersuit’s mission and approach. Youp Meek, responsible for Sheltersuit Netherlands, gave the audience a behind-the-scenes look at the workshop, where 27 people, many with a refugee background, are now working to upcycle leftover materials into Sheltersuits and Shelterbags.
Thanks to partners such as textile manufacturer Ten Cate, aid organization HVO Querido, which distributes Sheltersuits to people experiencing homelessness in Amsterdam, and the Dutch Postcode Lottery, we are able to continue working on structural solutions to homelessness.
Collaboration with impact
Paul from Secrid, known for their minimalist wallets, also shared his story. Since 2019, Secrid has supported us in various ways, including a special product edition, ongoing financial support and by raising awareness through more than 8,500 retail locations worldwide. “Every package contains a message from Sheltersuit,” Paul said. “Together, we carry the story forward. People helping people.”
One coat, a thousand stories
We ended the afternoon with a call to truly connect. A simple hello on the street, a conversation, a sign of recognition. Because homelessness doesn't disappear by looking away, but by creating connection.
